Rwandan engagement in Washington

Rwandan engagement in Washington

Today we are really excited to bring you the second part of an engagement we posted a few months back. The groom is from Rwanda and as well as their snowy shoot, they wanted images that represented his heritage. Thanks to Ashley Loyer for bringing this cultural exploration!

The groom, Brice, is from Rwanda, and his entire family is going to be flying from Africa for their wedding in Yakima, Washington. The location was obviously super important, since we wanted to attempt to capture the spirit of Rwanda as much as possible, and although Rwanda is a lot more lush, we were really happy with the golden tones and rolling hills from one of our local hiking trails. I also love how when we had them in their more formal outfit, the light was softer, and then, once they put on their more vibrant attire, the light really started to show off for us!

Every outfit was made and shipped from Africa. No designer tags here - Brice's mother would go to their market, pick fabrics that she loved, and then she'd sew away. She even asked Brice + Cecilia what my favorite color was so that she could make a dress for me! So sweet! Then, for my favorite part of their session, I got them to show me some traditional Rwandan moves! They're supposed to put on a performance at their wedding reception as well!

We want to give a huge thanks to Ashley Loyer for these submissions. Be sure to check out her work on her site and Instagram.
